Whenever I live on Oahu there are a few goto places that I visit. Obviously most of them are beaches. I’m Australian and grew up near beaches so I’ve seen my fair share of good ones in my own country plus more than a few others around the world. Hawaii is up there with some of the best.
Can’t say I’m a fan of the OZ Mito wheels, however, sometimes I think I can live with them and others I don’t. I had the turbo twists on my 993 Carrera 4S back in Australia for the entire time I owned it and didn’t like them, so, perhaps I can keep the Mitos for a while. At least until I get back to Florida. So if you are after a set, let me know and perhaps we can do a deal.
Waimanalo Beach on the windward coast is one of the less crowded ones, other than the constant parade of wedding photographers. For the Magnum PI fans, Robin’s Nest was at the south end of this beach and the overhead footage of him driving the Ferrari along the coastline is the road you drive to get there.
Makapu’u Beach is a reasonably rough one and was used as Mitch’s beach in Baywatch Hawaii, a completely unwatchable series… I lasted three epsiodes I think. Gives good views back along the coast so worth a stop anyway.
A lot of people stop at the Hālona Blowhole Lookout and don’t realise the beach to their right is the one used in one of the most famous movie beach scenes from the film From Here To Eternity.
This is one I didn’t visit until now. Takes a bit to hunt it out just north of Haleiwa and in fact I walked around from the Puaena Point Beach Park there, rather than park closer in a residential area that has a bit of a problem with car thefts. Most beach parks do, so be careful and don’t leave stuff in plain sight when you lock the car and head to the beach!
